Of all the not Irish locals, I do believe Hamburg was my favorite so far. Maybe it was the pending Christmas markets being set up, or they're adaptive nature, or possibly even that it was, so far, the easiest town to get around, but I really enjoyed it. I wouldn't mind going back and exploring it more, as I only saw a very small bit of it in the couple of days I was there.
I found and explored a very expansive open market that ran under the train tracks for quite a distance. Took a super cheap ride on the ferry. Also found what I'm guessing is the most rockin' club around Hamburg. Missed out on experiencing the fish market...this time. And found my way home without ever looking at a map. I was reminded that all you need is art. And a well placed board. And saw first hand that we aren'tthe only folks who have a hard time staying on budget with a huge construction project. The building that looks like bubble wrap is the new, grand Hamburg Opera House and complex being built. It, to date, has cost over 800k Euro. And yes, I even found Popeye defending Olive's honor.
Hamburg is definitely on my return list.
